Smitten

Eldest is in love.  He’s been dating a beautiful, young lady for six months.  They watch movies, hold hands and talk late into the night.  I’m sure there are other things going on that a mom doesn’t want to know about, but the point is, he’s completely head-over-heels in love.

Just like I am.

Sadly, it’s with one of my characters.

While most of his personality is shown through actions and his physical description is virtually nil, he’s a heart-throb like no other.  And it’s not just me.  My crit partners nearly swoon when he comes on the scene.

Readers, has your heart ever pitter-pattered over a character?  If so, what traits send your ticker tripping?

Writers, have you ever written a character that steals your heart?  Do you feel as odd about it as I do?!?!?

Inquiring minds want to know.

  1. Oh, swoon indeed! I love reading your chapters lol. And I also find myself daydreaming about my male leads now and then too. (Btw, how old is the eldest?)

  2. I think my heart tends to pitter patter for most of my characters, though I do have one in particular who started out as a minor character and sort of took over, so much so that he is now the love interest in a completely new novel (as yet unwritten).

It’s always a little unnerving and a lot fascinating when a character becomes so real that we have strong feelings about them!

It may not be a good sign about my mental health that it happens for me rather often . . .

Uh huh! Makes me wonder if I’m normal.

Thankfully you all are making me feel better about my mental stability by joining me in a group swoon session.

  3. Aww, young love! That’s so sweet. 🙂

Sometimes a Disney cartoon character makes my heart go pitterpatter (Prince Eric, anyone?). I imagine that’s similar to falling in love with a character you’ve written, only worse. LOL!

  4. I absolutely fall in love with characters all the time! I recently reread Anne of Green Gables and fell in love with dear old Gilbert all over again! 🙂
